Train the trainer?

Train the trainer?

Do trainers train?
Do Blackbelts train?
Do professional athletes’ train?
Should they?
Of course they should and of course they do…..and
Yes so do we. All the time. And we LOVE TO TRAIN.
The more we train, the more we learn, and the more we see how much we don’t know!
We train just like our students do because we ALL have lots to learn.
Have you heard the saying: Life is learning and we love to learn?
TDA Founders with A.C.W.A. Founder Mr. Justin Everman
We do. We really do.
This past weekend the founders of TDA had the honor and privilege of training with the ACWA Founder. Here we are training with the A.C.W.A. Founder, Mr Justin J. Everman at the World Headquarters in Richardson, TX.
We worked on lots of different concepts, skills, principles and mindsets….including:

Here's eye gouging with Edwin…..Yikes!
Edwin getting eye gouged! Ouch.

Then we worked on takedowns. From standing and lying and all points in between.
Here's a takedown with Terry and Bryan….remember where the head goes, the body follows?

Gun disarms from many angles…..front, back, side, kneeling, standing, etc.

Knife defense from both standing and on the ground….hint, stay low Edwin!

What did we learn? LOTS!
In two days we covered lots of throws, takedowns, firearm disarms, knife disarms and several other principles and concepts as we continued our own training and learning.
Throws – from side base or back or front or ……wherever we end up.
Takedowns from behind, the side, in front, with our legs, or kneeling or …….
Disarms from standing, from the side, from the back, from kneeling, from……
It was a great time had by all.

It’s the Journey NOT the destination.
One thing the three us constantly remind ourselves of is from another saying made famous: It’s the Journey not the destination.
Don’t get so focused on belts, grades or levels….focus on the journey. It’s the jorney that counts as much as the belt, grade or level!
Enjoy Life.
As Andy Norman from Defence Lab likes to say “Life is Good”.
Enjoy the shots of the three of us as we worked with the other instructors to refine and grow our own skill sets.
SEE YOU IN CLASS

‘Cause we ALL have a lot to learn – even us as trainers!
